Brick calculator: Calculate bricks and approximate mortar use

The number of bricks depends on more than the area of the wall. Brick format, joints, wall thickness and bond matter. The calculator collects the information and shows how the material quantity was found.

A simple module model for a single-leaf (half-brick) wall. Solid walls and hollow blocks require the supplier's method. The wall is not structurally designed.

Choose the format you will build with

Enter the dimensions of the wall and relevant openings. Then choose the actual dimensions of the brick and the joint size. A certain number of bricks per square meter applies only to the corresponding build-up and cannot simply be used for all wall types.

Mortar use requires a suitable method. The shape of the brick and the workmanship affect the quantity. Use documented consumption figures for the chosen system when the result is to be converted into bags and an order.

Guide to ordering materials

Distinguish between wall types

A simple veneer wall and a thicker solid wall do not use the same amount of material. Check that the chosen model matches the wall you want to build. Openings and special details can also change the cutting.

Example with a module size

A facade module of 240 by 66 mm geometrically equals about 63.1 bricks per m² in a simple module calculation. Edges, bond and waste come separately and can change the order.

Add a visible reserve for breakage and cutting rather than hiding it in the number. The quantity calculator does not size the wall, the foundation or the lintels over openings. Those matters must be settled in the project. Then compare the shopping list with the supplier's packaging, product instructions and options for delivering a uniform batch.
