Deck calculator: How many deck boards do you need?

The area of the deck is a good starting point, but it does not tell you on its own how many boards to buy. Board width, gaps, laying direction and the lengths you can buy affect both the quantity and the waste.

Applies to the amounts in this calculator.

From deck dimensions to shopping list

Enter the length and width of the deck. Then choose the actual width of the board and the gap the installation requires. The calculator shows the number of rows and works out how the chosen stock lengths can be used.

A calculated number of running meters is not always a finished order. A leftover piece of half a meter may be useless where you need a long piece. That is why the result also shows boards and cutting.

How to plan the deck

Try both laying directions

Another direction can change the number of joints and the quantity you need to buy. Use the sketch to check that the direction matches the project you have in mind.

Example with boards and gaps

Twenty boards of 140 mm with 19 gaps of 5 mm take up 2,895 mm in total. The outer edges are handled separately; there is not automatically an extra gap on each side.

The substructure and fastening must follow the instructions for the chosen product. The calculator gives a material list within its model, not an approval of the strength of the structure. Check the actual dimensions before ordering the materials.
