Wallpaper calculator: Calculate whole strips and number of rolls
Wallpaper is bought in rolls but hung in strips. That is why a calculation based on the wall area alone can give too few rolls. Wall height, roll length and pattern matching determine how many usable strips you get.
Worked example
- Pattern repeat: 64 cm
- Roll length: 10.05 m
- Roll width: 53 cm
- Wall 1: Wall width 3 m · Height 2.5 m
- Wall 2: Wall width 3 m · Height 2.5 m
- Wall 3: Wall width 3 m · Height 2.5 m
- Wall 4: Wall width 3 m · Height 2.5 m

Openings are not deducted. Offset patterns are not included.
Take the pattern into account
Enter the lengths and heights of the walls and the width and roll length of the wallpaper. If the wallpaper has a pattern repeat, it must be included. An offset pattern can require a different cutting plan than a pattern that matches straight across between the strips.
An opening does not always save a whole strip. Wallpaper may still be needed above a door or around a window. The calculator shows how openings are handled in the chosen model, so an area deduction does not give false precision.
Guide to ordering wallpaper
Find the information on the roll
Use the dimensions and pattern matching symbols of the product. Add the necessary margin for trimming at the ceiling and floor. Small differences in strip height can change the number from each roll.
Example without pattern repeat
A 10-meter roll gives four strips of 2.5 meters without extra trimming. With a strip length of 2.6 meters, it gives only three whole strips. Leftovers cannot automatically be used for a new full strip.
Also check that the rolls come from a suitably uniform batch according to the supplier's instructions. If you want reserve material for a later repair, it should be added visibly rather than being a hidden waste allowance in the calculation.
