EV range calculator with optional reserve
How far you can drive on the next charge depends on the energy you have available and the consumption on the trip. Here you can calculate with your current battery percentage and choose how much charge should be left on arrival.
Worked example
- Usable capacity: 60 kWh
- Battery now: 80 %
- Reserve on arrival: 10 %
- Consumption: 20 kWh/100 km
- Other consumption for comparison: 25 kWh/100 km
42 kWh available
210 km
With the other consumption: 168 km.
The consumption is your own figure. There is no fixed winter factor.
Calculate with your own consumption
Enter the usable battery capacity, starting percentage and desired reserve. Then enter an expected consumption in kWh per 100 km. The result is the calculated distance before the battery reaches the reserve.
Consider using different consumption figures for city driving, highway and winter. Speed, temperature, wind, load and heating can change the consumption. There is no single winter percentage that fits all cars and trips.
Guide to a realistic range
Start from comparable trips
Look at the car's history from a trip with roughly the same speed and weather. A low summer consumption from short city trips is rarely a good starting point for a winter trip on the highway.
Example with arrival reserve
A 60 kWh battery at 80 percent holds 48 kWh. If you want to arrive with 10 percent left, you can use 42 kWh. At 20 kWh per 100 km, that equals 210 km.
The reserve is part of your plan. It can leave room for detours, queues or an occupied charging station. The calculator estimates energy and distance; the car's navigation can add route, elevation differences and current conditions. Use the charging time calculator if you also want to look at the next charging stop.
