Use the area of the room and the pack
The flooring calculator uses the total area to be covered. If you have several rooms, you can find each area first and add them together. The pack area must be taken from the packaging of the specific flooring.
Waste is entered as a percentage you choose yourself for the job. The calculator does not assess which waste suits the shape of the room or the laying pattern. If the area per pack is missing, the number of packs is unknown.
How the number of packs is calculated
First the waste is added to the floor area. Then the material needed is divided by the pack area. The result is rounded up to a whole number of packs, because part of a pack does not count as a whole pack to buy.
The area in the packs bought can therefore exceed the calculated need. The difference comes from the rounding and is in addition to the waste you have already entered.
Example with 20 m² of floor
The page's example uses 20 m² of floor and 10% waste. The waste is 20 × 10 / 100 = 2 m², so the need is 20 + 2 = 22 m². At 2.4 m² per pack, the calculation is 22 / 2.4 ≈ 9.17 packs. This is rounded up to 10 packs, which cover 10 × 2.4 = 24 m².
